FSSAI Basic Registration is specifically applicable to petty food business operators operating within India. Under the statutory guidelines issued by FSSAI, the following entities and business models are required to obtain a Basic Registration: • Petty Food Manufacturers: Small-scale food production units, home-based kitchens, cloud kitchens, and bakery operators with an annual turnover up to ₹12 Lakhs and production capacity not exceeding 100 kg/liters per day. • Retailers & Grocers: Small grocery stores, kirana shops, confectionery stores, and retail outlets selling packaged or fresh food products with annual revenue under ₹12 Lakhs. • Food Vendors & Hawkers: Mobile food carts, street food vendors, temporary stall holders at religious or social fairs, and tea/coffee stalls. • Small Dairy Operators: Dairy units, milk chillers, and milk vendors handling up to 500 liters of milk per day or up to 2.5 metric tons of milk solids per annum. • Slaughterhouses & Meat Shops: Small slaughtering units handling up to 2 large animals, 10 small animals, or 50 poultry birds per day. • Storage & Warehousing Units: Small cold storage or dry food storage warehouses with a capacity up to 50 metric tons. Note: If your business turnover exceeds ₹12 Lakhs per annum or your production capacity crosses petty limits, you must apply for an FSSAI State License or Central License instead.
