The eligibility for Legal Metrology Registration depends entirely on the nature of your business activities involving weights, measures, or packaged goods. 1. Importers and Packers (LMPC Certificate): Any individual, company, or entity that imports pre-packaged commodities into India, or packs them domestically for retail sale, must obtain an LMPC Registration under Rule 27. The entity must have a registered premise, a valid IEC (for importers), and ensure that the packages bear all mandatory declarations (MRP, manufacturing date, importer address, etc.). 2. Manufacturers of Weights & Measures: Entities that manufacture instruments like weighing scales, tape measures, or dispensing pumps must apply for a Manufacturer License. They must possess the necessary infrastructure, tools, and technically qualified personnel to manufacture accurate instruments. 3. Dealers & Repairers: Individuals or firms engaged in selling, distributing, or repairing weighing and measuring instruments must obtain Dealer or Repairer licenses respectively. They must prove possession of adequate premises and, in the case of repairers, the technical competence and loaner equipment required to test and calibrate the instruments correctly.
